We threw cars out of the back of a plane, no joke. We had
skydivers photographing those cars as they were falling down. It's as insane as
it sounds," Wan said. It was a scene that Wan choreographed in the hopes
of becoming something surprising and pleasing to the franchise' longtime fans,
especially after he took over from Justin Lin, who directed the four previous
films.
Wan shared that the concept actually came from his talks
with writer Chris Morgan and producer Neal Moritz as they tried to find a way
for the gang to enter foreign territory undetected. That was why they decided
to toss out modified versions of a 1968 Camaro Z/28, a 1968 Dodge ChargerR/T, a
2014 Jeep Rubicon X, a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT 392 and a 2014 Subaru WRX STI.
Besides, as Wan said, "These movies kind of defy
physics and logic to some degree." It should also be noted that the scene,
which was filmed in October 2013, was one of the last few scenes filmed by the
late Paul Walker. The actor, who plays Brian O'Conner, has been a part of the
franchise since it began in 2011, and passed away a month after due to a tragic
car accident, according to International Business Times.
The late Walker will still be present in the film though,
where he will be shown alongside returning cast members Vin Diesel, Michelle
Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and more. They will be joined by Jason
Statham as Deckard "Ian" Shaw, who is targeting the gang in order to
avenge the death of his brother, according to Air Herald. Vin Diesel took to
his Facebook page on 9 January to share a photo featuring himself with Paul
Walker. The "Fast & Furious 7" actor captioned the photo as
"at undefined.
